Book Recommendations

In Coraline’s apartment are twenty-one windows and fourteen doors. Thirteen doors open and one only opens on to a brick wall until the day it leads to another world just like hers only different. There is another mother, another father and they want Coraline to stay with them and be their little girl. They want to change her and never let her go. Other children are trapped there as well, lost souls behind the mirrors. Coraline is their only hope of rescue. She will have to fight with all her wits and all the tools she can find if she is to save the lost children, her ordinary life, and herself. The book is even better than the movie.

Tiger is one of the youngest monks in his secret temple.  When his temple is attacked and every monk is killed except Tiger and his four brothers, Monkey, Hawk, Snake and Dragon, they must scatter to learn the secrets of their past.  Each of the monks’ names are chosen due to the fighting style they have mastered. This was a great book with a lot of action. This first book in the series is about Tiger’s journey.  There is a lot of description of the gore involved in the many fighting sequences, so those with weak stomachs may want to skip this one!

If you are a City of Ember fan, Downsiders is a book for you! Talon lives in a secret world under the sewer grates of a major city. He and the other Downsiders never go Topside and are afraid of what lies above. But when Talon is forced to go Topside looking for medicine for his sister, he meets a Topsider, Lindsay, who is curious about his world, too. Their friendship and mutual curiosity create a danger that could destroy Talon’s world forever. Downsiders is full of action, suspence and fantasy!
